The Marriage Ministry at First exists to strengthen and enrich marriages by offering support, resources, and guidance based on biblical principles. It focuses on preparing couples for marriage, supporting newlyweds, enriching established marriages, and offering restoration for struggling relationships. These ministries often involve small groups, workshops, counseling, and community-building activities.

Building a Better Marriage Class - Registration

The Marriage Ministry @ First is excited to announce a new marriage class starting October 4th at 9:30 am, in the Gym. We will be leading an 8-week class going through a video study (no book to buy & a downloadable study guide) from Earl & Oneka McClellan. This class is not just about learning, but also designating time to work together on how to practically apply these principles in our marriages. Check out the description from the website:

First Baptist Church of Lodi is proud to present Marriage Date Night. Two great comedians, music by Jonny Diaz, and a faith-centered evening of connection and fun. Food trucks will be available prior to the event to purchase dinner (one less thing to think about). And of course, we will have a photo booth in the lobby to commemorate the evening. Whether you are a regular date night couple or this is the first in you-can't-remember-how-long, don't miss it.

Pastor of Care, Discipleship, & Young Adults

Hey all! My name is John Shinn, and I have the enormous blessing of being the Director of Care & Discipleship, as well as the Young Adults Pastor here at First (as well as a few other hats). I am married to my fantastic wife Jacquie and have two kids, Ellie Grace and JD. After starting down a few different career paths in life, God called me into ministry. After graduating with a Master of Arts in Counseling Ministry, I started working at FBC Lodi in 2024. My true heart is in discipleship. Everything in life springs from our relationship and walk with the Lord. The trials of life and how well we deal with them directly relate to how much we are being transformed into His image. John 10:10 states, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." The only way to find this full life is to follow Jesus now, preparing us for the fuller life to come.
